Anonymous asked: WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE POLLEN MEETS AN EGG

This is the pollination process by which pollen is transferred in the reproduction of plants, thereby enabling fertilization and sexual reproduction.

Each pollen grain is a male haploid plant, a gametophyte, adapted to being transported to the female gametophyte, where it can achieve fertilization by producing the male gamete (or gametes, in the process of double fertilization).

Anonymous asked: How does Hydrogen Peroxide affect seed germination and plant growth? Please explain in as much detail as possible please. Thanks =)

Hydrogen peroxide is a plant signalling molecule (like ethylene) used by the plant to mediate pathogen and environmental stress responses. It also may help in root development.

soaking seeds in a 3% solution of hydrogen peroxide for 10-30 minutes, followed by at least 10 rinses in clean water will kill any pathogen growing on the outside of the seed. Germination appears increase after this sterilization because some seeds get attacked by pests as soon as germination begins and the embryo is destroyed before it even emerges from the soil. This is routinely done in plant research laboratories to prevent powdery mildew, mold etc. It also prevents damping off.

Anonymous asked: Time to Separate Orchid Plant

Select an orchid with five or more pseudobulbs for separating. The pseudobulb is the thickened, solid, bulb-like part of the orchid that stores food and water. Determine that the orchid has finished blooming for the season. Check for new growth emerging from the eye at the base of the pseudobulb; the best time to separate an orchid into multiple plants is during repotting when new growth begins to appear
